Memory makes reality.

That’s what New York City cop Barry Sutton is learning as he investigates the devastating phenomenon the media has dubbed False Memory Syndrome—a mysterious affliction that drives its victims mad with memories of a life they never lived.

That’s what neuroscientist Helena Smith believes. It’s why she’s dedicated her life to creating a technology that will let us preserve our most precious memories. If she succeeds, anyone will be able to re-experience a first kiss, the birth of a child, the final moment with a dying parent.

As Barry searches for the truth, he comes face-to-face with an opponent more terrifying than any disease—a force that attacks not just our minds but the very fabric of the past. And as its effects begin to unmake the world as we know it, only he and Helena, working together, will stand a chance at defeating it.

But how can they make a stand when reality itself is shifting and crumbling all around them?

Review by Morgan

Barry Sutton, a New York City detective answers a call to help a potential suicide of a woman that has FMS. With FMS, False Memory Syndrome the victim remembers a life that never occurred. She can remember a husband and son so vividly it drove her mad. Affected by this occurrence, Barry starts to investigate FMS and goes down a road he never would have dreamed existed.

Flashback to eleven years ago, Helena Smith is a neuroscientist that creates a type of technology with the potential to cure Alzheimers. Realizing too late the dangers her creation can cause, Helena tries to right her wrongs and keep her technology out of the wrong hands.

I went into this story blind, I had absolutely no clue what it was about. Let me tell you, it was definitely not what I was expecting. If I had to describe this novel in one word I would choose mind blowing. Crouch created a world that left my head spinning for days. The crazy thing is I don’t even like Sci-Fi but I could not put this book down. You will not want to put it down till all of your questions are answered.
